Welcome to Social Studies!

In simple words, "social studies" is the study of people and the way they live: how they interact with each other, who has power and how they got it, what their beliefs are, how they interact with the environment, how they survive and use natural resources, etc.

In 6th Grade Social Studies here at beautiful Al-Madinah School, we study world civilizations, beginning with the earliest known farmers of the Fertile Crescent, thousands of years ago, through great empires that have come and gone (Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Roman, Christian, Aztec, Mayan, Incan, Muslim, Ottoman, Zimbabwen, Songhan, British, just to name a few), all the way through the present day.

In 7th Grade Social Studies, we learn the first part of the history of the good ole' U.S. of A.!  (The second part is taught in the 8th grade).  Who were the nations and civilizations that flourished in the Americas (North, Central, and South America) before Europeans came through and colonized?  On what principles was this country founded?  By whom?  How did the U.S. government show its strength and gain the respect (and subsequently, the fear) of the great European powers at the time, Britain and France?  Why did the Americans enslave first the Native Americans and then the Africans?  What internal struggles did this country face in its first hundred years?

So enjoy the page.  Feel free to e-mail me with your comments about how I can improve it.

And remember...if there's any good here, it came [only] from Allah, the Ever-Living.  All of the mistakes are my own.
